On October 27, at the invitation of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), ISC-Urban Health and Wellbeing Programme Office (UHWB), the Institute of Urban Environment, CAS held an online forum on the theme of “Urban Intelligence for Healthy Urban Development”. The webinar was moderated by Prof. Franz Gatzweiler, Executive Director of UHWB and was addressed by Mr. Qin Jiuyi, Deputy Director General of New Technology Center of CAST. The webinar invited scholars and experts from related fields and industries to deliver presentations on the theme. The valued speakers included Dr. Simon Hodson, Executive Director of CODATA, Mr. Stephen Passmore, CEO of Resilience Brokers, Prof. Ibtihal El-Bastawissi, Dean of Faculty of Architecture-Design & Built Environment of Beirut Arab University, Prof. Mamello Thinyane, Principal Research Fellow at the United Nations University Institute in Macau and Prof. WANG Lan of Tongji University.

The webinar focused on the important role of urban intelligence systems in the current phase of global urban development. Urban intelligence is created in cycles of continuous improvements, which requires access to data which is FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable) and integrated into systems which transform data to knowledge to action and back to data. The webinar aimed to discuss how this can be achieved and which obstacles need to be overcome to co-create urban intelligence for healthy and resilient cities. The speakers concluded with answering how to create urban intelligence, and highlighted the importance of building data systems with high coverage, accuracy, accessibility and trust, as well as urban labs.

The video of the thematic forum was played online on 2020 Green Development Innovation Conference.
